The Honey Totem
Honey is product of all the bees’ hard work and diligence. It is
usually deep golden color and clear rather than opaque, but can
also be nearly colorless and sometimes cloudy in appearance, and a
dark rich brown. Honey is thick, sweet and was loved by the gods
for its distinct flavor and healing properties. In fact Mead, a
rich, sweet, Honey wine was said to be the “Ambrosia of the
Gods” or the “Nectar of the Gods.” Mead, or Honey Wine, has
been produced for centuries. The word Honeymoon is said to have
been derived from the practice of Mead being a favored dowry
offering to new grooms from the bride’s father.
Honey has also been used for centuries as a medicinal and is still
used today for many medical and beauty treatments. It has been used
to heal wounds, sooth sore throats, ease coughs, as a restorative,
and as a skin moisturizer and beautifier. Egyptian women, known for
their beautiful skin often massaged a mixture of milk and honey
onto their faces, letting it set and dry and then rinsing it
off. Indeed, honey is known to be a skin softener and pore
minimizer as well as a power anti-bacterial.
The bacterium that naturally occurs in Honey actually helps
encourage the growth of good bacteria in the body, while killing
bad bacteria. This bacterial action is why Honey has been used for
healing wounds throughout the ages. Honey also aids digestion, has
been used for eye infections and as a soothing ointment for
sunburn. It is a soothing healing and regenerative food and a
powerful medicine.
Not all Honey is created equal. It is best in its raw or
un-filtered form. Pasteurized Honey looses much of its strong
medicinal properties. The color of Honey will vary according to
which flower’s nectar was used to produce it. There are many
types of honey to choose from. Ancient Beekeepers, in Egypt, would
have boaters take their hives down the Nile with them so that their
bees could gather pollen from a larger variety of flowers in their
region. Likewise, in the modern world of Beekeeping, bees are
exposed to a diversity of flowers in order to produce pure and
exotic blends.
There are three-hundred different varieties of honey in the United
States alone. Some can be nearly colorless, and mild in taste, and
can vary to all ranges of golden to dark molasses brown with the
flavor intensifying as the color becomes darker. The flavor of
Honey comes from one type of flower or from a mixture of many, here
are but a few of the most popular and delicious types of Honey
available in modern times: Orange Blossom, Eucalyptus, Clover,
Buckwheat, Alfalfa, Sage and Tupelo.

These Pearls are said to impart their particular magical virtues to
their owner. Honey Pearls are characteristic of the thick, sweet,
delicious, ambrosia which produces them; they possess the
characteristics that may be seen in Honey itself; the sweetness and
energy giving properties of the Honey it is obtained from is
contained within the pearl waiting for its proper owner to bestow
its inner magic to that unique and fortunate individual.
The owner of a Honey pearl will see their lives, sexual energy and
mental clarity imbued with all of the virtues attributed to the
“Nectar” of the Gods, Honey. The Honey Pearl is a strong spirit
indeed and its magical properties are one of the most romantically
influential of all animal totems.
