Very Rare Gemstones and Crystals

With the large growth of the use of crystals and gemstones for metaphysical and healing uses, certain of these items have become quite rare and hard to find in nature. While quartz of all colours is quite abundant, certain types of naturally occurring crystal quartz gemstones have become scarce. Many purists prefer that their crystals and gemstones not be man-made, thus, they seek out only those that are formed within the Earth or near the Earth’s surface. One could hardly argue with the idea that a man made, or “manufactured” stone would not hold the same vibrational energy as those that are created naturally, over time within their natural habitat.
Several types of naturally occurring clear crystal quartz gemstones are highly prized for their scarcity. Primarily these are stones that have grown with unusual inclusions inside. Rainbow crystals, or those that have a naturally occurring prism within, were once abundant; they have become much more difficult to purchase as they have become more popular. Some rutilated crystal quartz gemstones hold a very high premium and are considered to be very rare gemstones indeed. Rutilization simply means that the quartz was formed with another element or mineral contained inside and while this occurrence can be common, some are very uncommon.
They can be quite stunning and some of the more rare, sphere shaped pieces can run into the thousands of dollars range to purchase. Platinum, gold, silver, brass and tourmalined inclusions within crystal quartz gemstones are some of the most difficult to find within a large, high quality, colourless crystal, and a piece with these types of irregularities can cost anywhere from two thousand dollars to twenty dollars depending on the size and shape of them. Most of these very rare gemstones are found in Brazil but they may also be found in the United States, Australia, Madagascar and Pakistan.
Other very rare gemstones have always been difficult to obtain, even before the wide spread metaphysical revolution which occurred in the last decade. For instance Alexandrite is considered a very rare gemstone. It is so rare that it is one of the most valuable stones to acquire. Its chemical composition does not allow it to produce in the Earth in large quantities, thus, high quality pieces are scarce. Alexandrite also has an exciting and highly unusual feature; it changes colour! In natural daylight the gemstone will appear green or a deep blue/green, but in incandescent or unnatural light, the stone will change to a red, purple, or raspberry colour!
Crystals and gemstones and where they can be found
The more distinct and obvious the colour change the higher the price of the gemstone will be. High quality Alexandrite is mostly found in Russia and a small area of Brazil. Another very rare gemstone to find in large sizes is Tsavorite, or green garnet. This gemstone is known for its exceptional and startling brilliance; however, it is extremely sparse in sizes exceeding two carets. Thus, a Tsavorite over this size would be quite costly. Another magnificent and very rare gemstone is Paraiba Tourmaline.
This stone displays an exceptionally stunning shade of turquoise that is a wonder to behold. Paraiba can also display shades of purple, green, sky blue, indigo and purplish blue depending upon the content of copper and manganese the individual stone contains.
Due to its rarity and difficulty to find in even small quantities and sizes, even those that are less than a caret are quite expensive. Other extremely rare gems are so because they are no longer able to be found in mines, the only ones available are those that have already been mined and cut from the rough stone, some of these include: Benitoite, Red Beryl, Hauyne, Painite, Musgravite, Taaffeite, Jeremejeveite, Majorite, Poudretteite, Grandideirite and Serendibite. Each of these very rare gemstones are very difficult to find anywhere in the world and all hold extraordinarily high prices and value when they can be obtained.
