The Chameleon Totem

The Chameleon Totems are the symbols of change and new beginnings. The Chameleon is also a master of disguise and can blend into any background or environment it encounters. Their skins will alter their color from green to brown and shades in between to hide from predators, to reflect their temperature and also their moods. Chameleons can be found in Africa, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, India and Asia Minor.

Lizards can be found on every continent of the world except Antarctica. All lizards shed their skin which indicates their ability to start fresh and leave old ways behind when desired. They are both solitary creatures and most species what for their prey to come to them rather than stalking their meals. Both are said to be shape-shifters.

Lizards come in a variety of types, some have horns, some can detach their tails, once in their lifetime, when caught in a near fatal situation allowing them escape from danger. Famous types of lizards include, Gecko, Skink, Iguana, Komodo, and, of course, Chameleon. Gecko’s, which are prolific in Hawaii are known the Polynesians to be sacred creatures.

Relations of Chameleons and Lizards are said to lived on the Earth over two-hundred and fifty million years ago. This makes them pretty enduring in the scheme of the universe. They survived evolution while others perished completely.
